Sandra Speidel is a fine artist based in northern California, who specializes in figurative and abstract painting.

Speidel’s recent paintings explore richly layered surfaces of figures moving through environments such as airports and city streets, as well as in contemplative solitude. They suggest the representational and then push the boundaries toward the abstract, creating flat textural surfaces of depth and ambiguity.

She studied fine art at San Francisco Academy of Art University and San Francisco Art Institute, and with master painters Chester Arnold and Phillip Buller. She teaches both graduate and undergraduate figurative drawing and painting at the Academy of Art,  and privately from her studio.

Growing up in a mostly artless environment, as a child Speidel filled countless sketchbooks. She has degrees in English, and journalism, danced for eight years, studied acting for 5 years, and is a published poet, all of which inform her paintings.  She was an award winning illustrator before turning to painting.
